How do I build my personal network of connections to other community members? |
Each person in your personal network is called a “Connection”. Connections are created after you send someone an “invitation” to connect and they accept your invitation.
Invitations to connect can be sent through one of two ways.
- By using the Search function you can find ASM members and others who are members of the community. The entry for each person listed on the Search Results page includes a link to Add to Connections. Also when you click the persons name on the Search Results page you will see a page of Profile information for that individual. You must be logged in to the site to see a Profile page. The My Options section in the right margin of the Profile page includes a link to Add to Connections.
Your invitation is delivered to the individual’s Community Mailbox and is identified as an Invitation.
- To invite someone not registered with the community to be a connection go to the My Dashboard page and click the My Invitations tab. From this point you can directly enter email addresses, or import contacts from popular web email services, or import email addresses from a file with comma separated values, (CSV). The people you invite will receive an email inviting them to register at the community site and become one of your connections.

Can I control access to my personal information? |
You can control how much of your account information is visible to others who view your community profile and also control whether your profile is searchable by Everyone, or only ASM members, or No One. Go to My Dashboard/My Account/Privacy Settings to see the options available. You must be logged in to the site to see My Dashboard.

What are the different ways to post a message in the community site? |
There are several ways to post a message.
- Your Mailbox
You must be logged in to access your community mailbox. The link to your mailbox is at the top of the page in the red page header. Messages to or from other community members are organized here.
To post a message to one of your connections click on Mailbox in the page header, and then New Message near the bottom of the page.
To post a message to someone with whom you have no connection, find that person in Member Search. The search results page and personal profile pages have links to send a message. If you cannot find an individual via Search, remember community members can use their account privacy settings to withhold their profile from the member directory search.
- Your Bulletin Board
In addition to your mailbox, which can have a message from any community member, you have a personal bulletin board for messages between you and everyone in your personal network of connections. You must be logged in to see your bulletin board. Click the tab for My Dashboard to see the sub tab for My Bulletin board.
It is important to remember that bulletins you post are received by all your connections. If you wish to send a message to one connection use the Mailbox function instead of My Bulletin Board.
- Group messages
If you join a Group you can post a Group Announcement. Group Announcements are posted on the group page, (not your mailbox and not your bulletin board). As such, group announcements are viewable by all group members. If the group is a private group, only group members will have access to the group page. This is subject to the privacy settings selected by the group creator. Only ASM members can create groups.
Each Group page also contains a Group Forum function. The link to “Open Forum” is found on the Group landing page. Accessing a group forum is limited to group members.
